Carol was born to Charles and Alma Larson on Feb. 2, 1935, in Bozeman. She was raised in Anaconda, where she graduated with honors from Anaconda High School in 1953. She then went on to attend college at Western Montana College on an academic scholarship, graduating with a degree in education in 1958.

She married Pat Young on June 9, 1954.

Carol taught school for 30 years until she retired in 1990. She taught in Sheridan, the Meridian School District in Idaho, and in Juneau, Alaska. She and Pat shared many adventures as she constantly encouraged her husband to reach his maximum potential for the good of the family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Family was very important to her. She enjoyed reading, quilting, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Carol is survived by her husband of 54 years; her oldest son, Greg Young and his son, Chase, and Greg's wife, Cristy, and their children Chandler, Cortland, and Caden; her middle child, David Young and his wife, Valerie and their children, Morgan and Fischer; and her daughter, Amy Kvaalen and her husband, Jon and their child, Lars. She is also survived by her brother, Charles Larson of Vancouver, Wash.; sister, Margo Smith of Anaconda; sister, Sally Larson of Pasadena, Calif.; and brother, Rick Larson of Butte.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her nephew, Bruce Browning; her sister, Marybeth Browning; her grandson, Ostin Kvaalen; and her granddaughter, Olivia Kvaalen.

Carol's memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at King of Glory Lutheran Church in Boise, Idaho.
