Carol's parents were Ben and Tillie Burtness. She was born in Wyoming on July 23, 1932. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church.
The Guest Book is expired.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her only brother, Roger (Bud) and her two sisters, Annabelle Brauer and Peggy Schrader. Also deceased is ex-husband, Wally Snell.
Carol graduated from Billings High School and enrolled as an English major at EMC. She was also a cheerleader while at Eastern. After attending college she married Wally Snell and waited for him to return from serving in the U.S. Army in Korea. Wally and Carol had five children: Cheryl (David) Mosdal, Stephanie (Joe) Fox, Sande (David) Seibert, Susie (Ron) Benson and Woody (Val) Snell. At the time of her death, Carol had 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, four of whom were born the week before her death.
Thirty-five years ago, Carol and Wally were divorced. Later, she married Dale Harcharik, an appraiser for the U.S. Forest Service. Carol had a career as a school secretary and a word processor for the State of Montana. She even worked as a lunch lady and a school bus driver.
Carol and Dale lived a quiet life in Bozeman for most of their marriage. Carol loved to play cards and was in several bridge clubs. She loved river floats, camping and fishing, a pastime that Dale introduced to her. She was never heard to say an unkind word about anyone. As Carol's health failed gradually over the last 15 years, Dale was always at her side, even taking on the cooking for them. Many prayers were said for her healing. She is now at peace.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Smith's Funeral Home West. Memorials may be made to the Montana MS Society, PO Box 2802, Great Falls, MT 59043.
