Catherine Svensrud, 89, entered into eternal rest with our Lord April 14, 2011, in Spokane, Wash. She was born March 3, 1922, in Manhattan to Teunis and Louisa (Post) Brouwer.

Catherine grew up and attended school in the Gallatin Valley. On Dec. 11, 1945, she married Gail T. Svensrud at Manhattan Christian Reformed Church.

Catherine worked at the Holiday Inn in Bozeman from 1970 to 1984, in addition to farming in the valley until health problems forced them to relocate to Spokane.

Catherine and Gail loved to travel pulling their travel trailer, and together explored many of the southwestern states including Arizona, New Mexico and California. They also made trips to Michigan and the East Coast.

She was a member of Bozeman Christian Reformed Church. Raising five children as well as being a farm wife was not an easy task, but Catherine did all that plus she was a wonderful cook and mother to her children. Until the end, she never missed an opportunity to share a laugh and a smile.

Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Gail; her sisters, Fannie Wierda and Jennie Dykstra; a brother, Aalt Brouwer; and her parents, Teunis and Louisa Brouwer.

She is survived by her sister, Mina Balkema of Kalamazoo, Mich.; her sons, Vernon (Linda) Svensrud of Bozeman and Stanley (Carol) Svensrud of Albuquerque, N.M.; and her daughters, Vivian (David) Locke of Portage, Mich., Kathy (Duane) Pietryga of Tucson, Ariz., and Jeanne (Phil) Pjesky of Hayden Lake, Idaho.

Also surviving are her grandchildren, Angela (Rob) Worrell, Travis (Alexandra) Svensrud, Renee Allen, Alana (Jon) Nelson, Allan (Sophia) Locke, Kevin Locke, Brandy Danhof, Jacob Sanford, Brittney Sanford, David Pjesky, Brandon Pjesky, and Sean Pjesky; 13 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Norman Dykstra; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation hours will be noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, at Dokken-Nelson's Sunset Chapel. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Bozeman.

Arrangements are in the care of Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service; www.dokkennelson.com.
