Charles Douglas "Chuck" Spring, 67, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016. He was in the final stage of Alzheimer's disease. Chuck was born May 21, 1949, in Bozeman, Montana, to Sam and Vera Spring.

Chuck grew up on the Flying D Ranch, South of Gallatin Gateway. He graduated from Bozeman Senior High in 1967. He served his country as a Marine and was in the Marine Reserves. He spent the first half of his life as a working cowboy and he excelled as a horse trainer. He learned many techniques from older cowboys. He had a special gift for working with young horses with the ability to apply the correct balance of firmness and patience to get the most out of a horse. His favorite places on the ranch were a cabin called "Cowboys Heaven" and the North side of Finnegan Ridge.
Chuck married Donna Phelps (Shockley) in 1970, and they had a son Ty Spring and a daughter Kristine (Kristi) Spring. Chuck worked as a cowboy on the CA ranch and the Flying D. Divorced in 1982 he later lived in Texas, California, and Arizona working as a carpenter and other odd jobs until settling on the flexibility of his cowboy learned trade of being a farrier and horse trainer. He then spent summers in Montana and winters in Arizona which he enjoyed.
Chuck loved the sport of Rodeo and loved to compete in Saddle Bronc and even tried Bull Riding. He was also an avid team roper and loved to compete at local jackpots. He loved to dance and socialize with other people, and he had a great sense of humor. He loved watching his grandsons in their many activities.
Chuck gave his life to Christ in the early '70s and was always concerned about other people's souls. He led many people to Faith in Jesus Christ which is the ultimate accomplishment.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and he is survived by his brothers Sam (Bill) Spring, Belgrade, Dick Sales (Joanne), Camas, Washington, children, Ty Spring (Crystal), Gallatin Gateway, Kristine Spring, Billings, grandchildren Bode and Rafe Spring, nephew Sam (Chad) Spring, Gallatin Gateway, niece Jamie Spring, Denver, Colorado, grandniece Riley Jo Hartman, Bozeman.
Celebration of life to be held at the Gallatin Gateway Community Center in Gallatin Gateway at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13.
