Charlie Gehring (1918 - 2009)

Charlie Gehring, 90, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at Moundridge Memorial Home in Moundridge, Kan., where he was a resident. He was born Aug. 10, 1918, near Moundridge, the son of Christian J.C. and Anna B. Stucky Gehring.

He was a retired farmer and custom harvester. He was a member of the Westside Baptist Church in Hutchinson, Kan. He lived in McPherson County most of his life. He moved to Bozeman in 1981, and then moved to Yoder, Kan., in 1987.

He married Mathilda Stucky on April 12, 1939, in Moundridge. She died Dec. 20, 1994.

Charlie is survived by a son, Charles "Chuck" Gehring and his wife, Connie of Kingman; daughter, LaVerna Schmidt and her husband, Richard of Bozeman; brother, Homer Gehring and his wife, Neva of Moundridge; three sisters, Mary Graber of Lakin, Lillie Krehbiel of Lindsborg, and Elsie Schrag of Moundridge. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Debbie Korrison and her husband, Tom of Salt Lake City, Utah; Doyle Stucky and his wife, Chris, Rick Schmidt and his wife, Jody, all of Bozeman; Jay Gehring and his wife, Stephanie of Pretty Prairie; Brian Gehring of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Annette Hale and her husband Ryan of Goddard; 10 great-grandchildren: Kendra Korrison of Pasadena, Calif.; Caitlin Camillo and husband, Angel of Sierra Madre, Calif.; Janna, Leah, and Karen Stucky, Brian and Tyler Schmidt, all of Bozeman; Tyler and Trae Gehring of Pretty Prairie; and Patrick Hale of Goddard; and two great-great-grandchildren, Issac and Ava Camillo of Sierra Madre, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, David and Ray Gehring; and two sisters, Esther Gehring and Viola Stucky.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 2, at Elliott Mortuary in Hutchinson, Kan., with Pastor Eldon Smith presiding. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park in Hutchinson. Mr. Gehring will lie in state at the mortuary on Saturday 1-9 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m.-9 p.m. The family will greet friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday.
