Chester H. Roloff, 87, of Palo, Iowa, passed away on May 18, 2011, after suffering a stroke. A memorial service and burial with military honors took place on May 21 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Survivors include son, Craig (Mary) of Bozeman, and daughter, Dawn Larson, and her husband Scott Ongie, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Chester is also survived by four grandchildren, Hailey, Jessica, Sydney and Ryan; and two great grandchildren, Grace and Max. He was preceded in death by his wife Ardith, son Mark, and a grandson Chad.
Chester was born on Nov. 15, 1923. He grew up during the Great Depression, served his young adult years in the Army Air Forces during World War II, then came home and built a wonderful life with his family. He married Ardith L. Elson in 1947 and worked as a millwright for Penick & Ford, Inc. for 40 years. After his retirement in 1986, he and Ardith lived in Montana for a number of years. Chester was a loving husband and father, and a friend to everyone who met him. He was a hardworking, kind, giving, upbeat person throughout his life, and had a great sense of humor. He will truly be missed by everyone who knew him.
