Cindy (Lehman) Peterson, 54, of Great Falls, a registered nurse and former nurse manager of emergency services at Benefis Healthcare, died of ovarian cancer Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at Peace Hospice.
The Guest Book is expired.
Her memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Faith Lutheran Church. Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Cindy passed away Friday, Nov. 21, at Peace Hospice, with her family by her side. She was born April 26, 1954, in Tucson, Ariz., to Carl William and Hilda Catherine (Martensen) Lehman. She grew up in Billings and graduated from Billings Senior High School. She attended Montana State University, where she received a bachelor of science degree in nursing.
Cindy met her husband Jim at MSU and they were married in 1973. They lived in Big Timber, Lewistown and Laurel before moving to Great Falls in 1985.
Cindy enjoyed an exciting and rewarding career as a registered nurse. She was on the first HELP helicopter flight team at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings, where she was also a nurse in the emergency department for nearly 10 years. While at St. Vincent she also helped organize the first cardiac rehabilitation unit at the hospital.
Cindy continued her nursing career in Great Falls, where she first worked as a R.N. and Mercy Flight nurse in the emergency department at Benefis Healthcare. She later became leader of the trauma unit at Benefis and was promoted to manager of emergency services, a position she held until cancer forced her to retire in 2006.
While working at Benefis, Cindy made many lifelong friends of co-workers, administrators and the many patients she helped. Benefis was her second home and she loved her work and was happy to work in a place where she could apply her skills of helping people and make a positive difference in the lives of so many people.
Cindy touched everyone she ever met and truly made a difference in the lives of everyone who knew her. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. Cindy had a love for life that brought happiness to everyone she met. She believed in angels and will undoubtedly be one of God's most treasured angels.
Cindy's family was the most important thing in her life.
Survivors include her husband, Jim Peterson of Great Falls; son, Tyler Peterson and his wife, Holly Basta of Madison, Wis.; daughter, Jill Laslovich and her husband, Jesse of Helena; parents, Carl and Hilda Lehman of Billings; brothers, Bill Lehman of Seattle, Wash., and Steve Lehman of Billings; and her sisters, Cheri Milne and Linda Lehman of Billings. Cindy also has a wonderful family of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her extended Swan Lake family, all of whom she grew to love like her own family.
Cindy was a faithful member of Faith Lutheran Church, where she had served on the church council and was a member of the choir. Cindy trusted in her Lord and knew without any doubt that He had prepared a place for her in His kingdom, where He has certainly taken her to.
Because of Cindy's love of her church and Benefis Healthcare, she would certainly want any memorials sent to Faith Lutheran Church, 3125 Fifth Ave. S., Great Falls, MT 59405; or to Benefis Healthcare Foundation, 1101 26th St. S., Great Falls, MT 59405.
