Clara Johnson passed away with family at her side on Monday, Oct. 26, 2009. She was born in Willow Creek on Dec. 21, 1927, to Harvey and Madge Manley. Growing up on the family ranch, Clara attended school in Pony, Butte and Bozeman, graduating from Gallatin County High School in 1946.

Madge knew her daughter had found the right man for her after the first time Clara brought her sweetheart, Bob, home for dinner. Graciously inviting Bob to have a slice of homemade chocolate cake, Madge watched in amusement and Clara in shock as he helped himself to the entire top layer.

Clara and Bob were married in a candlelight ceremony at the Methodist Church in Bozeman on Nov. 30, 1946. The young couple moved to Southern California in 1949. While living there, Clara and Bob were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Judy, and their eldest son, Joe.

The family moved back to Bozeman in 1955, where Clara balanced her time working for local businesses and raising a family. The task became more challenging and rewarding with the birth of their third child, Tom. After living briefly in Anaconda, Clara and Bob moved back to Bozeman to enjoy their retirement.

Clara loved cooking, knitting, reading and spending time with her family at their homes in Bozeman, Pony, and their cabin in the Gallatin Canyon.

Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, and her sister, Jane.

She is survived by her brothers, Phil and Joe; her three children, Judy (Jim), Joe (Terry) and Tom (Krista); five grandchildren, Nick (Jenny), Andy, Alex, Nato, and Molly; and her great-granddaughter, Madeline. Clara's large and loving family is a testament to the compassion and dedication she showed to the people in her life. Clara, you will be missed!

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at the Pony Bible Church, Pony, Mont. Interment will be in the Pony Cemetery.

Memorials in Clara's name may be made to Bozeman Deaconess Hospice, 915 Highland Blvd. Suite 3200, Bozeman, MT 59715.
