The Guest Book is expired.
Cliff was born Aug. 30, 1936, in Dickinson, N.D., the son of Walter and Catherine (Klupp) Ludwig. The family moved to eastern Montana and then to Livingston, where they lived while Walter served in the military.
They later moved to Pray, Mont., where Cliff attended Mill Creek Flat (Arrowhead) School before the family moved to Gardiner in 1950. He attended two years of high school in the Gardiner Eagles Hall and graduated from the newly built high school in 1954. While attending high school, Cliff operated the projectors in the Gardiner Theater. Following graduation, he worked for Yellowstone Park and the two Gardiner Texaco gas stations.
On April 2, 1960, Cliff married Juanita M. Cooper in Gardiner.
In 1999 he retired from the National Park Service as a procurement and contract specialist after 44 years of employment.
Cliff loved reading, doing jigsaw puzzles, collecting objects of all different descriptions, and he always anxiously awaited spring and the season's many garage and yard sales. He enjoyed traveling to visit friends and family and loved pets, including his fat cat, Tom Tom.
Cliff will be remembered as a wonderful and devoted husband, father and grandfather who would go out of his way to help others. He was known by many for being able to provide that much needed small, missing or broken part that could most likely be found in his extensive collection. As a member of the Gardiner community, Cliff was always there to help his neighbors and friends without being asked, and expected nothing in return. He was loved by many and will be sorely missed.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita of Gardiner; two sons, John Ludwig and his wife, Leslie of Carlin, Nev., and Andrew Ludwig and his wife, Leslie of Emmitsburg, Md.; two daughters, Cynthia Brown and her husband, Roy, and Mary Lou Pernett and her husband, William, both of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Halle and Brandon Pernett of Tucson, Ariz., and Aleksa and Winston Ludwig of Carlin, Nev.; a brother, Charles Ludwig and his wife, Joyce of Gardiner; two sisters, Dolores Jenness and her husband, Ron of Columbus, and Mariann Walker of Muscatine, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews; and all of his wonderful friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
If so desired, memorials may be directed to the Gardiner Ambulance Service, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
