WEST YELLOWSTONE - David Rightenour, 75, passed away Sept. 24, 2011, following years of health problems.

David was born Sept. 6, 1936, at Carey, Idaho, the son of James Herklas and Vivian Wilde Rightenour. He grew up and attended school between West Yellowstone and El Cajon, Calif. He also attended Ricks College, Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and the University of Southern California. He received a bachelor's degree in engineering and worked most of his life for the state of California as an engineering geologist.
David married Helene Leigh on Oct. 24, 1963, in West Yellowstone. The marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They lived in Sacramento, Calif.; Lancaster, Calif.; and West Yellowstone.
He was an active member of the LDS Church, and served on the Hebgen Lake planning board.
David is survived by his wife, Helene of West Yellowstone; children, Michelle (Robert) Ashby of Fresno, Calif., David L Rightenour of West Yellowstone, Timothy L "Tim" Rightenour of Meridian, Idaho; sisters, Lawana Rightenour of Aloha, Ore., and Betty Urquidi of Blackfoot, Idaho; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon Friday, Sept. 30, at the West Yellowstone LDS Church, Bishop Tad Wilstead officiating. Friends may call at the church Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in Fir Ridge Cemetery near West Yellowstone.
