David S. Haynes, 82, died on Dec. 1, 2011, in Mesa, Ariz., after a brief illness. He was born April 12, 1929, in Helena to John and Martha (Johnson) Haynes.
Dave spent his early years in Bozeman. His mother, Martha Haynes, was the Gallatin County superintendent of schools for 17 years.
Dave graduated from Gallatin County High School and Montana State University.
He served as an Air Force officer in Korea and then stateside as headquarters squadron commander at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Wash.
After the Air Force, he returned to Bozeman and worked for the Bozeman Daily Chronicle in the advertising department. Later he returned to college and earned a degree from the Los Angeles Art Center College of Design.
Dave spent 37 years in the advertising business in New York City, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Connecticut as an art director, creative director and agency president.
He split his retirement years between Allyn, Wash., and Mesa.
He is survived by his wife, Myrna; son, Andrew (Amy) of Seymour, Conn.; daughter, Courtney of Meriden, Conn.; sister, Gwen Hartman of Helena; stepdaughter, Linda (Marvin) Meek of Allyn, Wash.; three stepsons: Craig (Dee Dee) Maul and Steve Maul of Tacoma, Wash., and Clint (Carol) Maul of Gig Harbor, Wash.; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Dave was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Barbara Pence Haynes; his sister, Jean M. Chauner; and his brother, John D. Haynes, of Bozeman.
At Dave's request, there will not be a funeral or memorial service at this time.
