Edgar David Rexroat, 95, of Bozeman passed away of natural causes Oct. 21, 2008, at his home in Springmeadows. He was born May 23, 1913, in Macomb, Ill., a son of Edgar Lee and Ellena (Curnow) Rexroat. He lived in Ryegate from 1916 to 1931 when he graduated from high school and moved to Sedan with his parents to live on a ranch.

Edgar married Claire Marion Schain on May 14, 1938, in Bozeman. Following their marriage, they purchased a ranch by the "M" northeast of Bozeman. In 1942, they moved to Three Forks, where he worked for the Ideal Cement Plant at Trident for a short time. He went to work for the Milwaukee Railroad in 1943. He moved to Four Corners in 1976 and to Bozeman in 1981. He retired from the Milwaukee Railroad as an engineer in 1978. He and Claire were also in the property business from 1945 to 1984, buying, selling, and renting properties.

Edgar was a long-time member of the Locomotive Engineers Union, and past president of the Fireman Association. of Montana. He was very active in many of the Masonic affiliated bodies which included the Three Forks Masonic Lodge No. 73, Three Forks Shrine Club, past commander of the York Rite in Bozeman, Bagdad Shrine, and Jester Court No. 23 of Butte. He was also a member of the Gallatin County Shrine Club and the Gallatin Clown Club of Bozeman; the Colts Unit of the El Zaribah Shrine of Phoenix; Yuma Shrine Club and Shriner Diners; Yuma Acacia White Shrine No. 7 of Bozeman; past patron of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 56 of Three Forks; a member of O.E.S. Chapter No. 4 Lily of the Valley in Bozeman; a charter member of the Elks of Buckhorn Lodge No. 2656 in Mesa, Ariz.; a member of the Moose Lodge in Yuma, Ariz. He was a member of the Gallatin Good Sams RV Club for many years in Bozeman, and a member of the Bozeman United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Claire, of 69 years; his parents, and two brothers, Delbert and Dale; and daughter-in-law, Shirley.

Survivors include his two sons, David (Shirley) Rexroat of Davis, Calif., and Roger (Linda) Rexroat of New Underwood, S.D.; grandchildren, Valerie (Jim) Rennie; Michelle (Jon) Huffine; Stacy Wright; and Robbin Rexroat; great-grandchildren, Shanda, Aleasha, and Jonathan Huffine; Tylor and Madison Wright; and one great-great-grandchild, Alexia. He is also survived by three nephews and their families in Wyoming and Washington.

Cremation has taken place. Graveside services will be held at the family plot in Sunset Hills Cemetery in Bozeman at 10 a.m. Saturday morning, Oct. 25.
