Elizabeth (Betty) Mitchell McClure peacefully passed away early the morning of July 10, 2014. She was born in Kearny, N.J. to Samuel and Ada (Mitchell) Kennedy, recent immigrants from Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Following graduation from Kearny High School, Betty attended Upsala College, graduating with an associate's degree in medical transcription. She then worked in her field in the New Jersey and New York area until moving to Denver, Colo. in 1956 where she was employed by the Denver Clinic.

It was in Denver where she met her husband, George McClure Jr. They were married on Aug. 27, 1959 and moved to Berkeley, Calif., where she was employed by the University of California Student Medical Center. The following year her first child, Mary, was born. In 1961 they moved to Bozeman where her husband took a teaching job at Montana State College and where, the following year, her son, Richard, was born.

Betty was a wonderful and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was always available for her family and was involved in all her children's activities while they were growing up. She enjoyed traveling particularly to visit our national parks and monuments. Betty also enjoyed attending music events, the theatre and opera. Betty loved entertaining and having people around her. She considered everyone she met to be a friend.

She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church serving as both a Deacon and Elder.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, May Kennedy; her brother, Samuel Kennedy; and her daughter, Mary Elizabeth.

She is survived by her husband; her son, Richard (Jean); and her grandchildren, Caleb Mitchell McClure, Mary (Maggie) Margaret McClure, and Jacob Schroeder.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 3, 2015 in the First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MSU Alumni Foundation, P.O. Box 172750, Bozeman, MT 59717 for the Mary Elizabeth McClure Memorial Scholarship.
