Elsie Swanson, 81, of Bozeman, passed away in peace on Sept. 22, 2011. She was born in Butte on July 7, 1930, to Charles and Hazel (Bladen) Hanson.

Elsie graduated from Butte High School and went on to receive her nursing degree from Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago. She married Chuck Swanson, had four children and spent her active life in Butte, Sioux Falls, S.D., Chicago and finally Bozeman. She worked as a registered nurse, a profession she loved, until her retirement.
Elsie enjoyed attending Grace Bible Church, volunteer activities and both making and collecting adorable teddy bears. She was vibrant, well-read and hilarious.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Paul Swanson; her sisters, Lila Landon and Ruth Eley; and her brothers, Howard Hanson and Chuck "Whitey" Hanson.
She is survived by her daughter, Julie Swanson of Bozeman; her sons, Craig Swanson of Bozeman and Chuck Swanson of Lafayette, Ind.; brother Tom Adsem of Livingston; and grandson Seth Swanson in active military service. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends living throughout the United States.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, in the Fireside Room at Grace Bible Church.
Memorials may be made to the Lincoln Park Zoo, 2001 N. Clark St., Chicago, IL 60614. Elsie really loved the zoo.
