Geoff worked as the Director of Institutional Planning at Eastern Montana College in Billings and the acting Dean of Students at Northern Montana College in Havre before returning to work at MSU, this time as a project specialist, counselor and project coordinator.

In 1989, he became the owner of Choices Counseling and Consulting in Bozeman, where he also was a psychotherapist and professional counselor until his retirement in 1998. He received many awards during his career at MSU, including the Faculty Excellence Award in 1991, the Outstanding Faculty Teaching award in 1992 and the Student and Staff Appreciation Award in 1994.

He particularly enjoyed camping, ice and snow plane sailing, and many other outdoor activities. He loved traveling, both domestic and foreign. Even after retirement, he enjoyed household repair and light construction work around his home.
