George Albert Alexander, 90, of Belgrade, formerly of Milltown, passed away Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital. George was born on Oct. 2, 1919, in Rochester, Minn., to Albert George and Grace (Hardy) Alexander. He was one of 10 children. George grew up with his seven sisters and attended school in Rochester, Minn.
The Guest Book is expired.
George served in the Army during World War II in the Philippine Islands where he served as a crane operator with the 73rd Amphibian Truck Co.
George married Lorraine Stockman, and together they raised seven children.
George later married Patricia Ruth Lucky, and they were together for 48 years. During this time, they raised their three children, while living in California and Montana.
George worked for M.O. Weaver in Des Moines, Iowa, as a power shovel operator at a rock quarry. He then followed this profession to Petaluma, Calif., and Warren. George later was employed and retired from Dave's Sinclair Station in Milltown, where he worked as a mechanic.
A true Montana outdoorsman, George loved fishing, camping and hunting, especially with his family. He also enjoyed tinkering in his shop, drawing, leather work, bowling, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He had a great sense of humor and always enjoyed a good laugh. George would like to be remembered as a good husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa, and as a kind and gentle man that worked hard all his life.
George fully enjoyed the last years of his life surrounded by his extended family, Rod and Faith Vanover and his friends at Open Arms Assisted Living in Belgrade, where he enjoyed music, lending a helping hand, great conversation, and his cups of coffee.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Grace; his wife, Pat; brothers, Kahn and Gordon; sisters, Gertrude, Vivian, Verna, Violet, Norma, Joan, and Barbara; grandson, Greg; a great-granddaughter; son-in-law, Jerry; and daughter-in-law, Loretta.
