Hazel was the oldest of three children born to Robert I. and Adeline McCutcheon. She was raised on a small homestead near Havre, with younger brother, Robert M. McCutcheon of Denver and younger sister, Joyce. She attended Havre schools and was active in Rainbow girls and Eastern Star. As a young woman she worked at H. Earl Clack Company and at the Hill County court recorders office.
Hazel met Vern when her younger sister, Joyce, married Vern's younger brother, Roy Olson. She married Vern in the Van Orsdel Methodist church one year later on June 22, 1950. Hazel and Vern lived briefly in Gary, Ind., before returning to Havre where they raised their family and lived for the next 55 years.
Hazel's family and her Christian beliefs were the most important things in her life. She took care of her husband and two sons with an immaculately kept home, the wonderful meals she prepared, and in the way she cared for and encouraged her children in the pursuit of their goals. She was an active Christian her whole life, teaching Sunday school, member of Aglow, attended Bible studies, and had daily devotions with her husband.
Hazel and Vern moved to Bozeman in 2007 to be near family.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Janet K. Olson; sister, Joyce; and Roy Olson.
She is survived by her husband, Vern H. Olson; sons, Andrew Olson and Brent (Myra) Olson; and brother, Robert M. (Mary Lee) McCutcheon.
Memorials in Hazel's honor may be made to the Bozeman Senior Center Respite Program; or to a memorial of one's choice.
