Hazel passed away at the Pioneer Medical Center in Big Timber, Mont. She was born on the Mason Family homestead on the West Boulder just south of McLeod, Mont. She was the daughter of Howard and Alice Richardson Mason from England. Hazel attended school at McLeod and Sweet Grass County High School. She graduated in 1933. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wright Ewan and two brothers Douglas (Mike) and Robert Mason, both of whom were serving in the U.S. military during World War II at the time of their deaths.

Hazel married Wright Ewan in May1936. They were married for 52 years. She is survived by daughter Nancy (Gary) Perkins of Belgrade, Mont. and Russell (Eileen) Ewan of Spokane, Wash., and granddaughter Wendy (Tony) Stroop of Great Falls, Mont.

Hazel and Wright worked in Lennep, Mont., then at their East Boulder ranch in McLeod and managed the C.M. Russell Lodge in Big Timber.

She was active in St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Hospital Guild, American Legion Auxiliary, Boulder Valley Women's Club and Three Rivers Club of McLeod. She was a 4-H leader, member of Hospice, What Not Club of Lennep, Senior Citizen of the Year from the Hospitality House in 1996 and 2003 and Queen of the Cowboy Ball in 1996.

She was proud of the volunteer hours she spent in support of the Pioneer Medical Center, visiting shut-ins, and clipping coupons and quilting. She was talented at crocheting.

At Hazel's request memorials in her name can be made to St. Mark's, the Hospital Guild and Hospice of Sweet Grass County. A memorial service will be held at a later date. A special thank you to her friends at St. Mark's and to the patient care givers at the PMC.
