June Kallestad passed away Dec. 5, 2013 at her home at the age of 83. She was born to Cecil Lewis and Ethel Ruby Sievert on May 27, 1930 in Bozeman. She and her brother Jack grew up in the Gallatin Valley surrounded by a large family who were always gathering at every opportunity. June graduated from Bozeman Senior High and went on to work in Bozeman at the old Creamery.
In June of 1954, she married Darrel Herman Kallestad, and moved to Livingston where Darrel worked as a machinist and gun smith. June and Darrel owned and ran the Lamp Lighter restaurant where her homemade cinnamon rolls were famous. They were active in the community with the Boy Scouts, the JC's, Mason's and the Elk's.
After Darrel's death in 1964, June went to work for the unemployment agency in Livingston and then on to manage the Guest House and Murray Hotel until she accepted a position with the Avon Company as a District manager in 1973. June worked for the Avon Company in Colorado, Helena, and then the Gallatin Valley until retirement.
June is survived by her four children, Dan Kallestad of Bozeman, Beccy (Jeff) Waldum of Big Timber, Bonnie Kallestad of Belgrade, and Randy (Kim) Kallestad of Belgrade; nine grandchildren, David D. Kallestad, (Cybil) of Belgrade, Kimberly L. Kallestad of Helena, Lisa D. Kelly, (Marcus) of Helena, Andrew D. Waldum (Tammy) of Ellensburg, Washington, Erin H. Barr of Portland, Oreg., Megan R. Lester (Scott) of Missoula, Jacob R. Kallestad of Belgrade, Jessica C. Schultz (Garrett) of and Kassie J. Kallestad of Belgrade. June was blessed with ten beautiful great-grandchildren who all survive her as well as her brother, Cecil Jack Sievert (Naida) of Belgrade and numerous nieces, nephews, and relatives continuing to live in the Gallatin Valley. June was preceded in death by her husband, Darrel Kallestad; her father, Cecil Sievert and mother Ethel Sievert Wendell.
The loves of her life were her grandchildren and she was forever amazed at how beautiful and smart each one of them are. Mom and Grandma will be missed in our lives daily. We were all blessed to have her and are at peace knowing she is free of pain and most importantly with the Lord our God.
Funeral services will be held at Dokken Nelson Sunset Chapel on Wilson Avenue in Bozeman on Saturday, December 14th at 10 a.m. There will be a reception directly following. Following the reception, June will be buried next to her husband, Darrel Kallestad at Mountain View Cemetery in Livingston at 1:30 p.m. Any who wish to travel to Livingston are welcome to the graveside service.
