Helen Margaret Cochran Anderson, 93, of Bozeman, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at her home at Birchwood, Hillcrest Senior Living.
The Guest Book is expired.
Helen was born Feb. 20, 1923, in Spokane, Washington. At the age of 3, she was adopted by James and Margaret Cochran of Kalispell. She remembers the opening day of the Going-to-the-Sun Highway and spent many Sundays enjoying picnics in Glacier National Park or at Somers Beach on Flathead Lake. She graduated from Flathead County High School in 1941.
On March 16, 1946, Helen married Chester Anderson in Kalispell and they made their home in Evergreen. Every winter weekend was spent at Big Mountain where their children learned to ski at an early age. In 1954, they moved to Bozeman for six months and then to Libby. The family moved back to Bozeman in 1958, and Helen has resided here since.
In the early 60s, Helen was employed at the hospital when it was located on Lamme Street, then worked for the Gallatin County Health Department until her retirement in 1985.
In retirement, Helen and Chet enjoyed many miles of RVing, driving to Alaska twice and working two winters in Death Valley, California. They hiked many miles on the trails in the Gallatin Canyon.
Survivors include daughter, Marcia (Jim) Jarrett; son, Greg (Jennifer) Anderson; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 68 years, Chet.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 22, at First Presbyterian Church in Bozeman, where she was a member since 1963. She, and her family, are so appreciative of the wonderful care given by the staff at Birchwood.
