They traveled extensively following their marriage. She was active in Soroptimists, made enameled jewelry and did exquisite cross-stitch and needlepoint. She had an extraordinary knowledge of the Bozeman community and the people who lived there in the 20th century. She and Jim were founding members of the Sourdough Volunteer Fire Department and she served as its secretary-treasurer for many years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Jim, in 2009 and by her sister, Elizabeth, who died in 1998. She is survived by her sister, Jane McCarthy of Helena and cousin, Meredith Miller of East Helena (sons Michael and Ken McGuire); in addition to her stepchildren, Barb (Bill) Berg of Portland, Jim (Kate McAnally) of Winchester, Va., and Carolyn Boyd (John Berg) of Bozeman.
