Helen R. Alix Washburn, 93, passed away at home, with her family at her side, on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, in Bozeman. She was born in Pawtucket, R.I., to Andrew Caif and Emma M. (Yehle) Alix.

She grew up and attended school in Providence, R.I. Helen graduated from Hope High School in 1932 and attended Bryant Stratton Business College during evening sessions.

Helen worked as a bookkeeper for an automobile agency before her marriage to E. Theodore Washburn on Aug. 28, 1937. The couple made their home in Delmar, N.Y., a suburb of Albany, for 50 years. Helen worked for John G. Meyers Department Store for 15 years in the credit department. She later worked as the head wholesale clerk for Key Corp Bank for 15 years, retiring in 1980. Her job as wholesale clerk required her to floor plan all the automobiles for the auto dealers.

Her husband, E. Theodore Washburn, preceded Helen in death on Feb. 29, 1996. In 1999, Helen moved to Bozeman to be closer to her son and daughter-in-law.

Helen was a member of the Credit Women International, having served in all offices of the organization, and was a member of St. Stevens Episcopal Church in Delmar, N.Y. She loved to garden. Helen worshiped at Grace Bible Church in Bozeman and was a member of the Bozeman Red Hats.

In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by two brothers, Andrew and William. and her sister, Joan Melucci.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ted (Claudia) Washburn of Bozeman; son and daughter-in-law, Robert C. (Ranee) Washburn of Concord, N.H.; grandchildren: Raymond Bruce (Sherri) Washburn of Warsaw, Ill., Wendy (Michael) Houghton of Manhattan, James Todd Washburn of Belgrade, Robert C. Washburn Jr. of Concord, N.H., and Heather D. (Richard) Lukas of Sutton, Mass.; great-grandchildren, Timothy David Washburn, William Thomas Washburn, Seth Michael Houghton and Elizabeth Wendy Houghton and Johnathan Richard and Andrew Lukas.

Visitation with the family will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1, in Sunset Hills Cemetery, followed by memorial services at 11 a.m. at Grace Bible Church.
