Ione Hildegard Nelson passed away Aug. 1, 2011, in Bozeman. She was born July 25, 1921, in Florence, S.D., to Julia (Hegland) and Hilbert Ristvedt, the third of four children. Ione grew up on the family farm.

Ione graduated from Florence High School in 1939, then graduated from Waldorf College (Iowa) in 1943. She moved to Richland, Wash., to start a career as an X-ray technician. Following a brief stay in Billings, she moved to Bozeman where she attended graduate courses at Montana State University and continued working in the health-care field.
She married Nels Marion Nelson on Sept. 7, 1957, in Watertown, S.D. Phillip, their only child, was born on Nov. 3, 1961.
Ione was a long-standing and faithful member of Hope Lutheran Church. She was a charter member of Fjelldal Sons of Norway Lodge, forever proud of her 100 percent Norwegian heritage. Ione and Nels delivered Meals on Wheels in the Bozeman area for 16 years.
Ione is survived by her son Phillip, daughter-in-law Gabriella, grandson Christian (age 13); and granddaughter Raphaela (age 8), all of Bozeman. She is also survived by her sister, Gloria Erickson.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Norval; and a sister, Thelma.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at Hope Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in Sunset Hills Cemetery.
