Irvin R. Swanson passed away April 18, 2014 unexpectedly at home in Belgrade, Mont.

Irvin was born at home at Sanders, Mont. April 23, 1936 to Fred and AnnaBelle Swanson. After graduating SGHS in 1954 Irv joined the U.S. Navy serving in the Pacific. (Dad was an Electrician's Mate, 2nd Class Petty Officer.) His career job was working for Mountain Bell/QWEST for 33 years, retiring in 1994. In 1961 he married Susan and to this union had three children. Irv enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting up the Main Boulder.

Irvin was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Susan Swanson. Also, his parents, Fred and AnnaBelle Swanson; one sister, Leona Kirkpatrick, and one sister-in-law, Connie Swanson. Irvin is survived by his brother, Ray (Doris) Swanson; son, Ron (Barb) Swanson; daughter, Chris (Bob) Harper and son, Don (Shiela) Swanson. Also by six grandsons, Ben Harper, Clayton Harper, Donald (DR) Swanson, Jr., currently serving in the U.S Navy, Tyrell Swanson, currently serving in the U.S. Navy, Calvin Swanson, Wayne Swanson and one granddaughter, Aubrianna Swanson and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Stenberg Funeral Home, with funeral services following at 2 p.m. at the Big Timber Lutheran Church. Interment with military honors will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery. Condolences for the family may be made at www.stenbergfuneralhome.com.
