HAMILTON - The Grumpy Guy died of pancreatic cancer June 24, 2008, at the age of 78 in his home. He was born Sept. 9, 1929, in Auburn, N.Y., to Luther Stover and Dorothy Brown Stover. Jack grew up in the Owasco Lake region of upstate New York.

Jack graduated from Rutgers University in 1952 where he served as fraternity president, president of the Scarlet Key and the Interfraternity Council of Rutgers University. He completed ROTC as a first lieutenant of the U. S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1954.

Jack arrived in Montana in 1955. He worked for the Extension Service and managed Darigold Dairy in Bozeman, in addition to starting his own business.

Jack and his wife, Rosan, bought their place in the Hamilton area in 1984. When Rosan retired from teaching they became permanent residents of Ravalli County in 1998.

Jack was preceded in death by his youngest son, Scott Stover.

He is survived by his wife, Rosan Stover, and his children, Susan Carter, Sam Stover, Sandra Stover and Wendy Donaugh.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the care of Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton.
