Jacqueline May (Cole) Brown, born Jan. 7, 1931, in Jordon, Mont., peacefully passed away March 10, 2013 in Belgrade, Mont. surrounded by her loved ones.

She grew up on a homestead and learned hard work through many hours of planting, harvesting, and helping in the home. After graduating from Huntley Project High School, she attended Montana State University. She majored in elementary education with a minor in home economics.
She married Chris Small and taught in Highwood, Mont. After starting a life as a single parent, she renewed her teaching certificate and taught elementary school in Gallatin Gateway for several years.
She married Robert Brown and changed employment to Montana State University. In her retirement, Jackie faithfully worked as a Wal-Mart greeter for 13 years. Her hobbies emphasized her home economics and work ethic. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and cooking. She also earned many bowling pins and metals in various leagues.
Jackie loved her Norwegian heritage and keeping in touch with her relatives. She listened to Christian radio for many hours and attended Grace Bible Church.
Jacqueline is survived by her son, Scott Small; daughters, Karen Small, Christie (Steve) Strock; and her grandchildren, Jeff, Brad, Greg and Jessica. She is also survived by her sister, Shirley (John) Harding of Minot, N.D., and her brother, Robert Cole of Portland, Ore. Her family is grateful for the care of Rocky Mountain Hospice over the last months of her life.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 17 at Dokken-Nelson Sunset Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
