John Alvin "Jack" Goldenstein, 60, passed away Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at his home in Umatilla, Ore. He was born April 15, 1949, in Kalispell. He was the son of Alvin "Buzz" and Georgia (Monroe) Goldenstein.

Jack was raised on the family ranch south of Bozeman. He attended Bozeman Public Schools, graduating from Bozeman Senior High School in 1968, then attended trade school in Boise, Idaho.

He served in the United States Air Force.

After military service Jack returned to Idaho. For the past 10 years he lived in Hermiston and Umatilla, in Umatilla County, Ore. Jack was a painting contractor and enjoyed freelance painting, painting cars, camping, fishing, poetry, and telling jokes and stories.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Georgia Goldenstein.

Jack is survived by his father, Alvin "Buzz" Goldenstein of Bozeman; sons, Gary Gardner of Twin Falls, Idaho, Robert "Rob" Goldenstein of Waupun, Wis., Raymond Goldenstein and Shawn Goldenstein, both of Umatilla, Ore., and James Goldenstein of Twin Falls, Idaho; daughter, Cricket Beem of Killeen, Texas; and 11 grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Eldon and Tim, both of Wichita, Kan.; and a sister, Linda Storrusten of Great Falls.

Cremation has taken place. At Jack's request no services will be held. A family memorial service will be held in Montana.

Burns Mortuary in Hermiston, Ore., is in care of arrangements.
