He attended grade school in Anaconda and Billings, Montana, and junior high and high school in Lewistown, Montana, graduating in 1981 from Fergus High School. He earned an automotive technology degree from Helena Vo-Tech in 1983.
Following his education he worked for Don Vanek's Imperial Motors and Dean Newton Oldsmobile in Lewistown as an auto mechanic. He then worked for Buttrey Foods in Lewistown for a number of years.
John was very talented and skilled working with his hands. He enjoyed woodworking, working on cars, and any remodeling project. He was also an avid hunter. A special passion for him was building and flying remote control airplanes. A dog lover, he had several through the years that were his best buddy, always riding in the pickup next to him.
John was preceded in death by his father, William (Bill) Thompson; brother, William Joseph Thompson; and aunt, Joan Harris.
He is survived by his daughter, Britney Thompson; mother, Jeanette Thompson; sisters, Agnes (Pete) Brekhus, Renee (Louis) Dumas, and Kathleen (Raymond) Anderson; twin brother, Gordon (Susan) Thompson; uncle and aunt, Dick and Diann Frazer; cousins Paula (Jim) Routh, Rick (Deanna) Frazer, Tana (Robin) Van Galder, Dennis Frazer; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
John will be remembered by his family and friends as being a very talented and good person. He was quite the practical joker and we will miss his quick wit.
