Kathleen Richardson passed away Nov. 14, 2008, at the Ridgecrest Healthcare Center in Ridgecrest, Calif., where she had lived for the past five years.

Kathleen was born Feb. 22, 1916, at the family home in Bozeman, the daughter of Melvin C. and Annie (Bumgarner) Lutes. She was a granddaughter of early settlers of the Gallatin Valley. Her maternal grandparents had moved to Montana from Missouri in 1892. She attended Bozeman city schools and Gallatin County High School.
Kathleen married Harold E. Richardson on Aug. 8, 1934, in Bozeman. They spent their early years traveling the western United States with their sheep shearing business. They lived in California, Oregon and Idaho, but most of their years were spent in the Gallatin Valley with their large extended family and friends. Harold passed away Oct 5, 1974, at their home in Boulder.
Kathleen and Harold raised their three children in Belgrade. Kathleen was vendor of the Belgrade Liquor Store from 1962 to 1969. She was secretary-treasurer of the Belgrade Commercial Club when it was started in the 1960s, and for four years was police magistrate.
Since Harold's death, Kathleen lived near or with her children and grandchildren, and has lived in the Flathead Valley, New Mexico and California.
She was preceded in death by her husband; three siblings, Harold Lutes, Jack (Jonathan) Lutes, Gail Lutes; and granddaughter, May Richardson.
Kathleen is survived by her three children and their spouses, Don (Catherine) Richardson of Sanford, N.C., Doug (Andrea) Richardson of Highland, Calif., and Ann (Jon) Dodge of Laramie, Wyo. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Josephine Johnson of Bozeman; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Interment will be in June 2009 with graveside services.
