Laura Louise Abshire passed away Monday, May 9, 2011, at the age of 50. Laura was the wife of Charles "Tom" Abshire and devoted mother to Elizabeth and Madison Abshire.

Laura leaves her mother, Margaret Gratton, and father, William Gratton, and her two brothers, Gene and Gerry Gratton.

Laura was known for her quick wit and humor and her passion and loyalty to her family and friends.

She was born in Portland, Ore., where she spent much of her childhood. She attended All Saints school and LaSalle high school before graduating from the University of Oregon. Following her passion for the written word and photography, Laura began her career in journalism and communications.

Laura and Tom married in November 1986. Their life together took them from Portland to Boise, Idaho, to Bozeman, and recently Duvall, Wash.

Laura loved to challenge herself and expand her horizons. She earned a 2nd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and loved Nordic skiing and "intense" yoga. She founded and was the publisher of Montana Parent Magazine, which combined her passion for family issues and journalism.

Throughout her life, Laura valued truth, fairness and accuracy which guided her written words and in her life.
