The Guest Book is expired.

Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Lauren Sikkema, passed away very peacefully in his home on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007. He would have been 87 on Wednesday, but God determined that Lauren would spend his birthday in heaven. He is presently with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Lauren was born in Fulton, Ill., on Oct. 17, 1920, the son of Jacob and Anna (Bos) Sikkema. He has one surviving brother, Wayne. He graduated from Lyndon High School in Illinois.

He married Carlene Mason on Dec. 20, 1941.

Lauren was a World War II veteran. He served three years in the U.S. Air Force as a crew chief on a B24 bomber.

Lauren and Carlene had three children, Larry, Jerry, and Susan.

He was a finish carpenter for years in Illinois, then moved to Bozeman in 1993. He loved being a husband to his high school sweetheart, spending time with his family, building things, nature, his home at the end of Bear Canyon, and fresh strawberry pie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Jerry.

Lauren is survived by his wife, Carlene; son, Larry (Diane) Sikkema; and daughter, Sue (Jerry) Karsky. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who will continue to be blessed by his legacy.

All those who knew him and loved him will dearly miss his smile, his love, and his encouragement.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Salesville Cemetery, Gallatin Gateway. Visitation hours at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service from noon to 9 pm Friday, Oct. 19.
