Lester Leroy "Les" Hausauer, 57, of Bozeman, fought a courageous battle with cancer and was taken too soon on Nov. 12, 2013. Les was born in Harvey, N.D., on June 8, 1956 to Rudolph and Lillian Hausauer. He grew up in Billings, Mont., graduated from Billings West High School and attended Eastern Montana College. He married Janice Donaldson in 1986 and they moved to Bozeman in 1990. Les was overjoyed when his son, Connor, was born in 1992 and his daughter, Lauren, in 1994. He was happily employed at Schnee's for the last 23 years.
Les is known for his love of family and friends, his strong faith, his sense of humor, and his love of the outdoors. He made friends everywhere he went and served on the school boards of both Anderson School and Great Beginnings Montessori School. He advocated for trails and was actively involved in the early years of the Gallatin Valley Land Trust. He will be remembered for his never-ending optimism, his ability to connect with people, and his selfless nature.
Les is survived by his wife, Janice; his children, Connor and Lauren; his mother, Lillian; his brother, Lyle (children, Marie, Katie, and Jacob); and his sisters, Karla (Mike) Kane and Connie. Les is also survived by Janice's family and many good friends.
Les was preceded in death by his father, Rudolph, in 1991; and numerous other relatives.
Les loved his life and didn't want to leave it. He battled cancer yet continued to do the things that made him happy including working at Schnee's, hunting, fishing, camping with friends, and especially watching Connor and Lauren play golf.
A funeral service will be held at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at Hope Lutheran Church in Bozeman. Graveside services and reception will follow. The Hausauer family would like to thank the Bozeman Deaconess Cancer Center for their care, kindness, and support. Donations in memory of Les can be made to the BDH Cancer Center. In addition, friends of the family are establishing an education fund for Connor and Lauren. For information, please contact Schnee's (800-922-1562).
