Lois Irene Keenan Olsen died on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, at Broadwater Health Center in Townsend.
The Guest Book is expired.
Lois was born to Harriet and Thomas Keenan in Grinnell, Iowa, on Oct. 14, 1926, the youngest of four children. Her older brothers were Mike, Dinty, and Bernie.
Lois was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Her mother died when Lois was 11 years old. When she was 14, Lois moved to Great Falls to live with her uncle, a medical doctor, and to finish high school. After graduating high school at age 16, Lois enrolled in the Columbus School of Nursing in Great Falls. Upon graduation from nursing school, Lois moved to Townsend in 1946 and started her nursing career at Townsend Hospital with Drs. Nash, McElwee and Bayliss.
Lois was married to Albert Olsen in December 1946. In 1951, they and their two children, Gary and Cathy, moved to Harrison. Al and Lois purchased the Save More Market grocery store, which they operated until 1971. Lois continued her nursing career at Ennis Hospital with Drs. Lossee, Idles and Wilkens.
She retired from Ennis Hospital in 1992, but still worked the satellite clinic in Harrison one day a week until 2002.
For more than 50 years, Lois was the local medical resource for the clinic in Harrison. She rendered first aid to accident victims, removed fishing flies from unlucky fishermen's ears, administered asthma shots, allergy shots, and delivered medicines to the locals, be it for themselves or their livestock.
Lois is survived by her son, Gary Olsen (Judy) of Townsend; daughter, Cathy McGregor (Scott) of Roberts; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Her husband of 43 years, Albert, died in February 1990.
Honoring Lois's request that no formal funeral services were to be held, her remains have been cremated and the family will have graveside services at a later date.
