Lorene "Rene" Lere, 88, journeyed home on Feb. 29, 2008, after several years of failing health.
The Guest Book is expired.
Lorene was born in Bozeman on June 28, 1919, to Fritz and Katie Fechter. Lorene grew up during the Great Depression in a large family with a widowed mother.
She lost her first husband, Wilfred "Bill" Larsen, to World War II. Beyond doubt, she was a member of the Greatest Generation.
Lorene married Arthur "Art" Lere on May 31, 1946, and settled in Bozeman, raising a family and working in the grocery retail business for over 30 years. She worked hard during the week and loved to dance on the weekends.
Although she was unable to share retirement with Art due to his untimely passing, she spent numerous retirement years enjoying winter stays with her niece in sunny Coral Springs, Fla. When in her beloved home in Bozeman, Rene spent her time cooking and baking, passing out her baked goods to friends, neighbors and relatives alike. Rene was well known for her famous dinner buns and cinnamon rolls.
Lorene was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; brother, Leonard; and sisters, Mamie, Bessie, Margaret, Helen and Dorothy.
Rene is survived by children, Steve (Cynde) of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Mark (Connie) of Helena; grandchild, Tyler of Flagstaff; brother, Larry of Amsterdam, Mont.; sister, Barbara of Lewistown and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Bozeman on Wednesday, March 5, at 11 a.m.
Our family would like to thank the staff at Aspen Gardens for their wonderful care of our mother over the last several years and Lowell Bartels for his ministry. Rene will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Services are under the direction of Retz Funeral Home. To offer condolences or to share a memory of Rene please visit www.mem.com.
