Loretta Ann ""Ret"" McKay, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away on Jan. 6, 2016, at the age of 88.
Ret was born in Detroit, Michigan, on April 1, 1927, to Edward and Marguerite Sauve, the second of seven children. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Richard (Dick); her parents; her sister, Joan; and brothers, Douglas, Gerald, and Clayton.
Ret was a business education teacher for 27 years in high schools and colleges in Michigan, New York, and Illinois and worked as a classroom teacher, department head, and division head. She enjoyed most her role as classroom teacher and relationships with students.
Dick and Ret were active church members wherever they lived. Ret did community volunteer work much of her life. The McKays retired on Swan Lake in 1987 and loved life on the lake for 19 years. In the Bigfork, Montana area, she was on the Bethany Lutheran Church Council, Bethany Women's Board, a trustee in the Bigfork Development Company, a volunteer at the Art and Cultural Center, and was on the Boards of the Swan Lake Library, the Swan Lake Chamber of Commerce, and the Swan Lake Community Club. They moved to Aspen Pointe in Bozeman in 2006 to be near family.
She really enjoyed being with her grandchildren, playing bridge, reading, crossword puzzles, knitting, Zentangles, painting, Book Club, the ""Knit and Stitch"" group, golfing, and family and friends. She was an avid cross-stitcher and had an exhibit of over 30 pieces at Aspen Pointe in November.
Ret's husband, Dick, was a three-time cancer survivor and they set up an endowment for kids with cancer at Eagle Mount.
Ret was always grateful for the love and caring of her family. Also, for the support of her three lunch ""buddies"" and her bridge partner. Ret and her family greatly appreciated the staff at Aspen Pointe.
Survivors include her children and grandchildren: daughter, Pamela (Richard) Dunkle; daughter, Deborah ""Bear"" McKay; son, Alan McKay; grandchildren, Dustin Dunkle, Ashley (Rob) McCray, Samantha, Benjamin, and Andrew ""Chip"" McKay, Kelly and Darcy Buchanan; and sisters, Marian Russell and Marcella (Lerry) Krohn; sister-in-law, Nancy Sauve; and many nieces and nephews.
She was a great lady; smart and accomplished, yet kind and loving. She will be sorely missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ret's name to Eagle Mount, 6901 Goldenstein Ln., Bozeman, MT 59715 or Bethany Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 398, Big Fork, MT 59911.
