Marie Thomson Gambill, age 103, passed away on Oct. 6, 2015.
The Guest Book is expired.
Marie was born Aug. 31, 1912, in Lakefield, Minnesota. In 1916, at age four, she moved to Bozeman with her parents, David and Lillian Thomson; sister, Idell (Barrick); brother, Alton Thomson; and grandparents, John and Martha Powell. Another sister, Beth (Stevens), was born in Bozeman a year later.
Marie and Ambrose Herman Gambill were married in Bozeman on Jan. 4, 1936. Herman was a civilian mechanic for the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Hawaii during World War II. Marie joined him as soon as housing was available and became employed as a clerk/typist at the naval shipyard. They lived in Hawaii for four years.
Later Herman was employed by Chrysler Corporation as the regional supervisor for the field representatives for Dodge trucks and they lived in California, Texas, and Colorado.
Marie was an accomplished seamstress and an excellent cook. She was a dedicated wife and enjoyed traveling with Herman.
After Herman's death in 1990, Marie became a volunteer with RSVP. She delivered Meals-on-Wheels, worked at the Bozeman Senior Center store, and served at the City Tourist Information Center and truck stop. She was also active in the Gallatin Nursing Home Auxiliary. She was Montana Senior Volunteer of the Year in 2003.
Although Marie and Herman had no children of their own, she is survived by 10 nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Herman; her parents; her siblings; and one niece and one nephew.
The family would like to especially thank High Country Care and Hospice of Bozeman Deaconess for their compassionate care of Marie.
