Mary (Leep) Schmidt, 93, passed away on Friday, Aug. 15, 2008 at the Mountain View Care Center where she was lovingly cared for since November 2005.

She was born to Andrew and Sarah (DeVries) Leep on Dec. 10, 1914 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, where the family homesteaded.

The family moved to Shepherd, Mont. when she was three; hardship and drought caused them to leave Canada.

In 1927, they moved back to Illinois, where Mary's family had previously lived.

She married Otto Schmidt Oct. 22, 1954. They spent their retirement years in Mount Vernon, Wash. until his death in 1962.

In 1987, she moved to Manhattan to be near her family.

She is survived by a half-brother, Tony Leep, of Michigan; a step-son, Don Schmidt, of Florida; a step-daughter, Marietta RosKamp, of Iowa; a step-son-in-law, of Lanning, Mich.; step-grandchildren and great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was a member of Manhattan Christian Reformed Church. She will be remembered as a faithful prayer warrior and active church member.

A graveside service will be held Monday, Aug. 18, at 10 a.m. at Churchill Cemetery.
