Melanie Rae Thompson, born Oct. 31, 1992, in Sioux Falls, S.D., and her unborn daughter, Aeryn Rae Donovan, perished in a traffic accident on Frontage Road, just east of Manhattan on Jan. 14, 2010.

Melanie was currently attending Manhattan High School, although she was expecting her daughter any day. She was determined to complete her education to go on to become a CPA.

Melanie was raised locally, but spent some time living with her mother, Jona Thompson, in Iowa. While there she was a student at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn High School in Hartley, Iowa. There she met her loving fiancé, Ralphie Donovan, the father of Aeryn. Melanie moved back to the Gallatin Valley in July 2009 to complete her education and start her new family.

Melanie was a very outgoing and loving young woman who enjoyed spending all of her time with family and friends. She also enjoyed anything that involved the outdoors. She enjoyed writing poetry and short stories. Most of all Melanie enjoyed playing with and tending to her many younger cousins. Melanie loved children and was excited to become a mother, with the full support of her family.

Melanie touched too many lives to mention them all, but she was loved by everyone she touched. Melanie will be holding her daughter, Aeryn Rea, forever with her in heaven.

Melanie and Aeryn are survived by a large extended family and many, many friends.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, at K&L Mortuaries in Three Forks. A gathering will be held at Shane and Christine Zeiger's house after the services, everyone is welcome.

Flowers and cards may be sent to K&L Mortuary. Donations may be made in their names at Valley Bank in Belgrade.
