Merna Field Allen, 92, went to sleep and passed from this earthly world to be with her savior and Lord on Oct. 4, 2014. She was born Dec. 13, 1921, in Donnybrook, N.D. (Ward County). The youngest of three children. Merna's mother died when she was 19 months old and she lived with her dad's older sister till she was 5, then with six more aunts and uncles till almost 10 years old. Her dad remarried and she was joined by a half-sister and half-brother. She was 16 when the family moved to Whitefish, Mont. Her education consisted of nine years in Sanish, N.D.; junior year in Ronan, Mont. and her sophomore and senior years at Whitefish graduating in the class of 1940.

She married Ralph Field April 4, 1941 in Whitefish. They had two daughters, Karen and Vickie. Ralph was later killed in an airplane crash June 13, 1955. Merna married W. Tressler Allen Dec. 1, 1957 at the Denton Community United Methodist Church. Tress and Merna raised her two daughters on the Allen farm on the Everson Bench north of Denton. She was a member of the Denton Community United Methodist Church and Order of Eastern Star. Activities included teaching Sunday school and having a very active role in Eastern Star where she held 15 different offices (some two and three times), was Worthy Matron two times, five years as a Grand Representative (Nebraska & N.D.), one year a grand officer, and about 27 years on Grand Chapter Committees.

Tress and Merna enjoyed many winters in AZ and Mexico in the sun. They moved to the Gallatin Valley in 2006 to be closer to their children. Merna was always a warm face and friendly smile at the Living Waters United Methodist Church and the Bozeman Lodge where she lived her last years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, brother, Clayton; sister, Hazel and son-in-law, Bob Arrotta. She is survived by daughters, Karen Arrotta, Bozeman; Vickie (Gene) Surber, Belgrade, Mont.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; half-sister, Sharon Andres, Overton, Nev. and half-brother, Lionel Erickson, Salt Lake City, Utah.

Memorial service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2:30 p.m. at The Bozeman Lodge and a funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10 at the Denton Community United Methodist Church, Denton, Mont.
