Michael Duane Peterson of Ennis, 53, died of an apparent heart attack on Sept. 4, 2008. He was born Aug. 5, 1955, in Great Falls.

Mike graduated from Fairfield High School in 1973. He lettered in basketball and football for three years. He was an avid hunter and also enjoyed and excelled in many sports including pool, bowling, trap shooting, racquetball, baseball, fishing, golf, and even pick-up sticks. He was very competitive and passionate about his sports and didn't lose very often. He could drop an elk from 600 yards.

He married Cindy Ringdahl on June 15, 1985, in Choteau. Together they had Jason Michael, 21, and Emily, 19. Mike worked for Three Rivers Telephone Company in Fairfield and was transferred to Ennis in 1994. He lived there until his death. Mike made friends everywhere he went and was known for his dry sense of humor.

Mike loved his family and was very involved in every aspect of his children's lives. He was a very loving husband, father, son and brother, and will be missed very much.

He is survived by his wife and children; parents, Stan and Louella Peterson of Fairfield; sister, Debbie (Ron) Laubach of Power; brother, Gary (Stacey) Peterson of Fairfield; sister, Jeanne (John) Cherne of Mukilteo, Wash.; father-in-law, Penner (Gloria) Ringdahl, and Gloria's children and their families; step-father-in-law, Bob (Rhoda) Brown of Washburn, Maine; sisters-in-law, Marcia (Tim) Stohlberg of Cromwell, Conn, and Carrie (George) Sawyer of Gray, Maine; brother-in-law, Ric (Tammy) Ringdahl of Farmingdale, Maine; step-sister-in-law, Susan (Kermit) Fuller of Washburn, Maine; step-brother-in-law, Keith (Sue) Brown of Washburn, Maine. He is also survived by nieces and nephews: Dennis, Lindsey and Chase Laubach of Power, Ben and Haley Peterson of Fairfield, Allison and Matthew Cherne of Mukilteo, Wash., Jacob Robertson of Somerville, Mass., Samuel Robertson of Caribou, Maine, Hannah Robertson of Cromwell, Conn., Danielle Ringdahl of Gardner, Maine, Olivia and Payson Sawyer of Gray, Maine; step-nieces and nephews: Greg (Lauren) McLaughlin of Hampton, N.H., Kathy (Matt) Bulmer of Derry, N.H., Nathan (Katie) Brown of Manchester, N.H., and Sarah (Sean) Diette of Portland, Maine.

He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Marietta (Ringdahl) Brown of Washburn, Maine.

Memorials are preferred to a fund established for Michael's children's college education expenses at First Madison Valley Bank in Ennis.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rocky Mountain Baptist Church in Ennis, the Rev. Vern Grotzke officiating. Interment services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Highland Cemetery in Great Falls. The family will receive friends at K&L Mortuary Chapel in Ennis on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
