Michael Stewart Benton, 51, unexpectedly passed away at home on Jan. 17, 2015 in Bozeman. He was a husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and dear friend to many. He was a gypsy at heart that craved new adventures. Stewart was born on Jan. 23, 1963 in San Antonio, Texas to Phillip and Jean Benton. He was raised in Kansas and Oklahoma where his father was employed by the Phillips Petroleum Company. Stewart attended school in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and also in Casper, Wyoming. Later he became a graduate of massage therapy from the Health Works Institute in Bozeman, Montana.

Stewart followed several career paths throughout his life including residential painting, car mechanics, culinary arts, and building maintenance. Regardless of what he was doing, Stewart's heart was anything that included music. He was an accomplished guitarist and vocalist. It was Stewart's great joy to share stories by singing in public venues and serenading his friends and family. He also enjoyed salmon fishing, shooting at the gun range, Angry Birds, and playing pool, especially with his friends on the pool league in Bozeman.
Stewart is survived by his parents, Phillip and Jean Benton of Centennial, Colorado; wife, Jill of Bozeman, Montana; step-son, Isaac Noble of Bozeman, Montana; step-daughter, Alyssa Noble of Helena, Montana; son, Scott Benton (Brandy) of Aurora, Colorado; grandchildren, Joshua, Zachary, and Christopher; sister, Melisa Miner of Lebanon, Oregon; nephews, Christopher Trotchie of Lebanon, Oregon; Andrew Williams of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin; and Vance Miner of Lebanon, Oregon; niece, Noella Miner of Bozeman, Montana; and extended family and friends.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will take place in Oregon with his family at a later date.
