Nelda (Speck) Holcomb was 89 years old when she passed away peacefully in her home, where she had been lovingly cared for by her husband and family. She was married to her husband, Dr. Paul Holcomb, for 71 years and had 5 children. Nelda was a wonderful wife and mother, it was considered an honor to care for her.

Nelda was born in Sherman, Texas, in 1927 to Urey and Jimmie (Hinton) Speck. Her family moved to McKinney, Texas, and that is where she met her future husband, while attending high school. After graduation, Paul enlisted in the Marine Corps to fight in World War II and returned to Texas while on leave. On his second-to-last day home, he proposed to Nelda and whisked her off to Oklahoma to get married, using his Grandpa's car with a few friends as witnesses. They were both 18 years old. When they returned, Paul had to go back to the war right away, so he left his new bride with her parents and they didn't see each other again for almost a year. During that time, Nelda worked in the local veterans hospital. They reunited when the war ended and Nelda helped Paul as he attended Texas A&M in the Veterinary Medicine Program. After Paul graduated, they stayed in Texas a short while then moved to Oregon; Shelby, Montana; Big Timber, Montana; then in 1965 purchased their home at 2543 Jackrabbit Lane, Bozeman, MT. This is where she lived out the rest of her days.

Nelda loved her husband and family dearly and took good care of them. She stayed home to raise her children and loved to work in the yard, garden, cook wonderful meals and watch the yellow canaries and chickadees in her lilac bushes. Nelda loved the Lord and spent her mornings reading her Bible. She truly blessed our family beyond anything that can be expressed.

Nelda is survived by her husband, Paul Holcomb; one sister, Betty (Speck) Robison of Denton, Texas; three daughters, Sandy (Holcomb) Hall (Troy), Jenny (Holcomb) Dixon (Mike), Tammy (Holcomb) Barnett (Russell); one daughter-in-law, Shirley (Nale) Holcomb; nine grandchildren, Kim (Abelin) Bullock, Kristin (Brock) Fisher, Kerrie (Brock) Phillips, Shawna (Holcomb) Maxwell, Joe Holcomb, Sam Holcomb, Amanda Dixon, Tyler Barnett, Joshua Barnett; and many great-grandchildren. Nelda was preceded in death by her son, Jim (Rocky) Holcomb; daughter, Becky (Holcomb) Brock; her brother, James Speck; her sister, Mary (Speck) McCarley; and her parents, Urey and Jimmie (Hinton) Speck.

In lieu of a funeral, Nelda requested that there be a private family gathering to celebrate her life.
