Paul Gardner, 36, son of Claire and Joe Gardner, passed away unexpectedly March 3, 2011, from complications of injuries sustained in Iraq.

Paul retired from the Army in 2010 with more than 17 years of honorable service to his country. He was twice stationed in Korea and served a tour of duty in Iraq where he earned the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantryman Badge. Paul was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, American Legion Post 4 and VFW Post 6774. Paul truly loved serving his country and comrades.
Paul was born in Boulder, Colo., and attended school in Bozeman, where he participated in wrestling and football. Paul loved all types of outdoor activities for which Montana is well known.
Paul is survived by his parents, Claire and Joe Gardner; Angela Gardner; his three children: Abigail, 8; Cole, 5; Evelyn, 3. Paul's siblings are Robert, Deanna, Brandon and Kelli Gardner. Paul also had a large extended family that included numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Memorial Mass will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral in Billings.
