Richard Frank Conner passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, with his wife by his side.

He was born in Swandale, W.Va., on New Year's Day, 1926. He loved to reminisce about his growing up years in Swandale, going into the woods with his granddad, sleeping on the ground, fishing, and gathering ginseng roots.

The war came along, and he enlisted in the Navy in 1943, serving 30 years and retiring as a master chief petty officer.

He married the love of his life, Phyllis Carol Boso, on Oct. 26, 1950, and they traveled and lived in many different places during his naval career.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 18 in Bozeman, the Scottish Rite and Khedive Shrine in Norfolk, Va.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; son, George "Michael" Conner (Cynthia); grandchildren, Eric Conner and Sarah Gorlitz; great-grandchildren, Sophia and Joseph Gorlitz.

He will be greatly missed by his family here in Bozeman as well as his friends and extended family in West Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina.

Cremation has taken place. A gathering for family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at Dokken-Nelson Sunset Chapel.
