Richard James Barton, 83, of Bozeman, passed away Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012 at his home.

Richard was born Aug. 2, 1928 in Painesville, Ohio to George and Effie (Edmonds) Barton.
Having received his bachelor's degree in science at the University of Ohio, he went on to receive his doctorate at Iowa State University. In 1955, he married Joyce Roll, and they had three children.
Richard served as a professor of science at both the University of Regina, and the Colorado School of Mines. He taught chemistry, physics, and astronomy. He also served in the Air Force and was discharged in August 1969.
Richard enjoyed reading and collecting stamps. He especially loved dancing; both square dancing and round dancing.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Effie Barton; and his brother, Robert Barton.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Barton; daughters, Janet (Richard Lund) Lee, Diane (Bryon) Whiteaker, and Donna (Florian Bell) Barton; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A private family service will be held.
