LEWISTOWN -- Richard T. "Dick" Orr, of Lewistown and formerly of Bozeman, passed away Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008, after a short battle with cancer. He was 70 years old.
The Guest Book is expired.
He was born in 1938 in Great Falls to Tom and Ruby (Hyland) Orr. He graduated from Great Falls High School in 1956 and Montana State University in 1960. He taught high school government, social studies, history and English in Belt, Edmonds, Wash., and retired after teaching in Bozeman at the junior and senior high schools in 1992. He was active in local education associations throughout his teaching career.
In retirement, he and Charlotte had the opportunity to take several cruises and trips abroad. Richard's happiest time was spent with his family, however his passion was hunting birds and big game. Richard was also a social and political agitator and if you knew him, you knew he had an opinion on everything. Mostly, though, he had a huge and generous heart and an abiding love for his family and friends.
Richard is survived by his wife of 49 years, Charlotte; sons, Thomas (Susan) of Missoula, and Scott of Billings; his daughter, Melissa Puelicher-Smid (Charles) of Moose, Wyo.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Carol (Gnojek).
Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of his life will be held from 2 to 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 27, at the family home in Lewistown. If you are planning on joining Richard anytime soon, be sure you brush up on your state capitols. Friends and former students, raise a toast!
Memorials may be made to the Central Montana Medical Center Hospice Program.
A memorial service will be held in Bozeman in the spring.
