Ronald Eugene Brown, 68, of Three Forks passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008. He was born June 13, 1940, to Melvin "Bill" and Albertha Brown in Campbell, Calif.

Ron grew up in Ripon, Calif., graduated from Ripon Union High School, attended Modesto Junior College in Modesto, Calif., and served in the United States Navy, assigned to the USS Ranger from 1959 to 1962. During his term of service, he married Jane A. Kaminga in July 1961.
Returning home from the Navy, Ron worked for the United States post office in Ripon, Calif., until 1966, when he became a sheriff's deputy for San Joaquin County, Stockton, Calif.
In 1969, Ron and Jane moved their family to Three Forks. Ron worked at the feed lot and Gallatin Farmers until becoming a resident deputy for the Gallatin County sheriff's office until 1992. Retiring from the sheriff's office, he took a position in the MSU police department until his retirement in 2000.
Ron's service to the community included his activity in the Three Forks Baptist Church, City Council, board of directors of Security Bank, and heading up the building of Headwaters Golf Course.
Ron was preceded in death by his father, Melvin "Bill" Brown.
He is survived by his wife, Jane of Three Forks; son, Mel (Monica) of Kalispell; daughter, Joy Dykstra (Ken) and their two children, Bryson and Kyndra of Toston; and his mother, Albertha of Ripon, Calif.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Three Forks High School gymnasium, with the Rev. Richard Clark officiating.
