Rubie F. Johnson, age 93, passed away on Jan. 16, 2012 in Bozeman. Rubie was born on Sept. 14, 1918 near Taylor, Neb. as the oldest daughter of James and Mabel Rails. She was raised, educated, taught school, married, and had her three children in Nebraska. In 1947 she and her husband moved to Oregon where they farmed and raised their children near Ontario.

Rubie married Lloyd B. Johnson on Dec. 30, 1941, in Ord, Neb. and they spent 44 years together until he passed in 1986. She remained on their farm near Ontario and enjoyed activities with the Hyline Community Club. Rubie traveled with friends and family from Alaska to Australia and saw the sights from the Oregon coast to New England. Additionally she made many trips to visit classmates, friends and family in Nebraska. She enjoyed extended visits to the homes of her children and treasured the time spent with her five grandchildren. She attended their high school and college graduations, their weddings, and was delighted with the arrival of six great-grandchildren.

Aging and related health issues instigated Rubie's move from the farm to "town" in 2000 for a five-year stay in her beautiful duplex in Ontario before moving to assisted living in late 2005. In May 2008 she moved to Spring Meadows in Bozeman. Her son, Jim; daughter-in-law Lorna; grandson, Mark and wife, Dia; and great-grandson, Jhett were daily visitors and family caretakers. Their many friends became hers.

Rubie enjoyed visits from her sisters, nieces, and nephews, and daughters, and their families during her years in Bozeman. Special friends, Cindy and Sheree brought joy to Rubie through their visits and caring concern. She made many friends at Spring Meadows and took special delight in lively conversations and laughter shared with friends at lunch and dinner. At Spring Meadows she never missed a party, enjoyed the music programs, and considered herself the reigning champ of the afternoon bingo sessions.

Rubie is survived by her son, Jim (Lorna) Johnson of Bozeman; daughter, Judy (Eldon) Foster of Portland, Ore.; daughter, Janice (Don) Armstrong of Spirit Lake, Idaho; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two sisters, two sisters-in-law, and a brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
