SFC Reginald "Reg" Richard Lawrence, 33, formerly of Jordan and stationed in North Carolina, passed away Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, at Fort Bragg, N.C.
The Guest Book is expired.
Reg was born May 23, 1977, in Glasgow, the son of Richard and Earline Lawrence. He grew up and attended schools in Jordan, graduating from Garfield County High School in 1995. He then attended the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D., Montana State University and MSU-Billings, graduating in 2001.
On Dec. 27, 2002, while he was stationed at Fort Drum, N.Y., he came home on leave and married Sara Lawson, daughter of Jim and Patty Lawson, in Bozeman.
He joined the Army in 2001 and was stationed at Fort Drum with the 10th Mountain Division. He deployed to Iraq in 2003. SFC Lawrence graduated the SF Qualification Medic Course in 2007 and was assigned to A Co, 1st BN, 3rd SFG(A), ODA 3114 at Fort Bragg, N.C.
He deployed to Afghanistan in 2009. He has attended Airborne school, SERE school, SFAUC, Static Line Jumpmaster, HALO, and Air Assault. His decorations include a Bronze Star, Army Accommodation Medal (1 OLC), Army Achievement Medal Special Forces Tab, and the Combat Infantryman's Badge.
Reg was a special husband, father, son and brother. He loved taking his family fishing and cruising around on the boat. He enjoyed explaining the ins and cuts of Dallas Cowboys' football to Drew, but was equally excited to have dress-up princess tea parties with Reese. Reg was very proud of his children, enjoying every minute with them. One of his proudest moments, however, was to deliver his son; he often boasted that he was the first one to hold and make eye contact with Drew.
Reg had zest and love for life and could make anyone laugh by his quick wit and fun-loving attitude. He loved playing practical jokes, and no matter how mundane the job he could find a way to make it fun. Reg never met a stranger and could always recall their names the next time he saw them. He was a caring person who would help anyone at anytime. He had a gift of making everyone feel welcome and at ease in his presence.
Reg is survived by his wife, Sara, daughter, Reese Meradith (2) and son, Drew Bentley (1); his parents, Richard and Earline Lawrence; a brother, Rod Lawrence and wife, Beth and nieces, Lacey, Lindsay and Skylar; his paternal grandparents, Art and Lois Lawrence.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Waldo and Mary Rose Bentley; as well as a very special friend and cousin, Kent Williams; uncles, Mick and Anthony Trotter; two aunts, Linda Domme and Claudia Trotter; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Vigil service was held Wednesday, Dec. 29. Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday. Dec. 30. Rite of Committal with full military honors was in the family lot at Pioneer Cemetery in Jordan.
