Shirley Jeanne Rice, 79, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.

She was born at Watseka, Ill., on Jan. 17, 1928, to Charles and Florence (Henderson) Clarkson. She was raised and schooled in that area. She graduated from Gilman High School in 1945 and worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Company.

She married Roger Goldenstein in 1947, and they farmed for ten years. In 1958, the family moved to Bozeman. Montana was very good to them, and they were able to retire in 1984. They moved to a beautiful home in the foothills near Sheridan, Mont.

Roger passed away in 1985, and Shirley moved back to Bozeman. In 1988, she married Vern Rice, and they had 19 happy years together, spending their summers in Bozeman, winters in Arizona and traveling.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, one brother, two nephews and one stepson.

Surviving are her husband, Vern; her daughter, Rosanne and Louis Dennison of Terrebonne, Ore., and son, Michael Goldenstein of Anchorage, Alaska. Also surviving are two stepdaughters, Tammy and Richard Leonard of Kent, Wash., and Suzanne and Tim Cross of Manhattan; three grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and three great-grandsons.

At Shirley's request, no services are planned. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service.
